The gift that shows you

really thought about them.

Every good mystery
has a backstory.
Ours involves chocolate.

We're a Canadian mother-daughter team who believe the mailbox has become terribly dull in recent years. We thought we'd do something about that.

EXPLORE THE STORIES

It all started when a coffin with black roses was left on my door step.

Yep. A miniature black coffin.

Not exactly what you expect to find when your doorbell starts ringing.

It was one of those times I desparately wished I'd stuck with taekwondo.

Of course. My sister.

My sister has a gift for giving gifts. Not the last-minute, grab-something-on-the-way-over kind. Oh, no. This woman takes gift-giving to a level that makes the rest of us look like we aren't even trying.

She doesn't just give gifts. She gives experiences I'll be talking about

for years.

And that got me thinking. What if I could create something that made other people feel that way, too?

Now, I happen to love writing, history, research, and a good murder mystery. (My internet search history is probably mildly concerning.)

Combine that with inspiration from my sister, my daughter's brilliant idea, and

a great deal of chocolate and mint tea, and The Teacup Letters was born.

A mystery that unfolds through mail, one letter at a time.

Same delight in the unexpected. Considerably fewer coffins.

Then I heard giggling.

Inside was a bunch of stuff, including a placqued invitation to a Halloween movie night. Cute, right?

Well, apparently, an invitation wasn't nearly enough.

Case in point: the coffin.
When I arrived...

she had transformed her backyard into a graveyard, complete with a movie projector, enough candy to induce a sugar coma, and gift bags stuffed with skeleton pajamas and blankets covered in horror movie villians.

She's made a tradition of these annual Halloween movie nights. The invite is always so much freakin' fun that I look forward to them. Every. Single. Year.

Are we on the same page?

Here's where we stand on good stories, meaningful gifts, and
prices that shouldn't require detective work.

A good story comes first.

Our first responsibility is to tell a cracking good story. And if it helps you see the world a little differently along the way? All the better.

Relationships deepen when
we give with care.

The best gifts show you've been  listening, even when they thought you weren't.

And sometimes the best gift you could give comes without a price tag.

The only mysteries should be
in our stories.

Ever bought something and seen exactly what went into its price? Neither have we.

Until now.
